Despite the popular belief that Luise walked out of her MGM contract in 1939 and disappeared into obscurity, never to be seen again, she worked consistently for the next 20 years. It wasn't until the 1960s that Luise stopped working full-time and my research shows only one professional engagement during this whole decade; whether the offers stopped coming or whether Luise herself decided it was time to ease herself into retirement I can't be sure. What s certain is that Luise and Robert moved from Switzerland to London in the 1960s and Luise began what could be considered her third new start and her creative output turned to painting rather than acting.
